She started her practice in Mumbai before shifting to Bangalore. She has appeared before the Supreme Court, different High courts, Statutory Bodies and other subordinate courts. Her areas of practice include inter alia Intellectual Property Rights, Corporate law, Commercial Transactions and ADR. She has, of late started concentrating in the area of Gender Justice, having ventured into this field after finding that there were very few quality practitioners specializing in this field with balanced view without being influenced by feminism or men's rights.
Ms. Iyer has made quite a few presentations spread over the years. Most notable was in 2007 in Orlando, Florida on Consumer Product and Product Safety Laws, where she spoke on 'The Indian laws and where we stand'; Discussion of Path-breaking cases in 'The National Consultation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 in the year 2010 in Mumbai.
Right now, she regularly trains on Women's and Children's issues and rights in various training programmes conducted by National Institute of Public Co-operation and Child Development, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
She also works with a few NGOs, mostly pro bono, in matters of civic and environmental importance.
